When is the best time to start orthodontic treatment? NOW! The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. The first adult molars generally come in by that age, establishing the back bite. Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this early age, but by providing early examinations we can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin any needed treatment. During the evaluation, the orthodontist can evaluate front-to- back and side-to-side tooth relationships. Timely screening will allow the orthodontist to monitor your child’s growth and development and begin treatment at the ideal time.
